I spent my 1 week sep break preparing for the IELTS exam. Why? We’ve decided to apply for PR down under and I’m the main applicant. As a GEO, I need to take the IELTS Academics test for the skills assessment. Not only that, it was also compulsory for me to score more than band 7 for each of the test components: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
Is the 1 week of mugging worth it? Of course! I managed a band 8.5 for Listening, 9 for Reading and 7.5 for Writing and Speaking It was a Band 8 overall! I was highly elated.
I wrote some essays while practicing for the exam, and I didn’t want to throw the papers away without recording what I’ve written. This is one of them, the title of which is the title of this blog.
In a lifetime averaging 70 years, the active working age is 25 to 60. That equals half a lifetime. With 50% of our lives spent on employment, job satisfaction is certainly a major issue relating to our well-being.
There are various factors that can affect job satisfaction. For an employee, the most important aspect is perhaps monetary gains – rewards for a job well done. Bonuses and pay rises work well as incentives ti ascertain workers’ excellence performance. Who is not happy with more money? Aside from receiving bonuses, I will be pleased if I am promoted in recognition of the efforts that I have put into my job.
Besides the aforementioned factor, the tone of environment is vital to guarantee job satisfaction. Imagine working in a filthy run down office – I would definitely hunt for another job within a week if being put in such a place! To raise worker’s contentedness, the workplace must be clean, comfortable and contains basic amenities such as a pantry, toilets, etc. The tone of environment also encompasses the attitudes of bosses and colleagues. Many people have resigned from a company simply because they are not happy with how their superiors and / or colleagues treat them.
A company that promotes work-life balance almost guarantees happy and contented employees. A sound medical benefit, family treats and discounts, corporate plans for personal mobile and internet subscriptions are some ways to show that the company cares for their employees. Instead of devoting 100% of their working hours into job completion, companies should organise events like family day, excursions or dinner fucntions to enhance interactions and hence, work ethics amongst workers.
As of today, the world’s economy is still recovering; unemployment rate is still soaring is some countries. As such, it will not be realistic to expect all workers to embrace 100% job satisfaction. More people are looking for a job than companies are hiring. To sustain a livelihood, we must bear with unreasonable bosses and lousy benifits, even if it means our level of job satisfaction is low.
I’m not sure whether this essay is well-written or not as I did not ask anyone to mark… I don’t really like argumentative essays that require me to give an opinion. When I was a student, I had always opted for imaginative ones, those that will allow my creative juices to flow and plots of stories to form
